3 Essential Garage Roller Door Maintenance Tips

We all know that it is important to keep our cars in good working order, but what about your garage? Most of us only think about garage roller door maintenance when something goes wrong. This is a big mistake because proper care and maintenance will help ensure that it lasts for many years to come.

To avoid costly repairs or, even worse, replacements, make sure you follow these 3 essential tips to keep your garage roller door running smoothly all year round!

1. Lubricate Springs

Have you heard a weird noise recently when you open up your garage roller door? It’s probably happening because the spring is under an extreme amount of pressure. A spring basically lifts the roller door up and down, so it holds the weight of the roller door itself.

To fix this issue, you can use a silicone lubricant to reduce the friction between the metal components, which means it won’t be under so much pressure. Just spray some on and wipe off any excess with a clean cloth or rag!

2. Take A Look At The Guide Rails

It’s important to clean the guide rails up and lubricate them as well. The guide rails are tracks that hold the roller door. If they get clogged with dirt, grime, or even rust, it will make your door very hard to open and close!

To clean them out, you can use a wire brush or steel wool. Just be sure not to damage any of the metal components. After that, you can apply a silicone lubricant and wipe it off the same way.

If your guide rails are in really bad shape or just too hard to clean yourself without special tools, then you might need to hire a professional! Over time they will wear out and become damaged, so be sure to inspect them at least once every six months.

3. Replace The Draft Seal

The draft seal is the strip that goes along the bottom of your garage door. It prevents air from coming into your home, which means it can save you money on heating and cooling costs!

If the draft seal is no longer sticky and has lost its grip, you might want to replace it. If your garage door still seals properly without a draft seal, that’s ok- but eventually, it will wear down over time, so get one just in case!
